Super Simple, Shadow Box Baby Shower Gift

It’s baby time around these parts for a number of my beautiful friends. So, it was an extra special treat to be invited to a baby shower recently. Of course, I wanted to find the perfect gift to honor the expectant little one. Then, I remembered the unique gift we received from my youngest child’s godparents and I used that as my inspiration.

Pio Gerard is named for two powerful saints to whom I had a great devotion during my pregnancy. His godmother used my birth announcement to create two very special pictures that I keep in his nursery.

Following the example, I purchased a plain, shadow box, picture frame. Since the inside backing wasn’t the color I wanted, I also bought scrap book paper in two shades of blue. I cut the sheets to the desired size and pinned the large one onto the backing with the pins that came with the frame. I used sticky dots to attach the smaller piece.

My friend’s baby shower invitation was this adorable handmade sailboat(I had to cut it a bit smaller than it actually was when I received it in the mail). I also used sticky dots to attach it because they added some dimension.
Lastly, I stuck a piece of double-sided tape in place. Now once the baby arrives, she can simply attach a photo.

As luck would have it, I found a sweet little onsies that matched the sailor theme. I put the frame and some other fun goodies (outfits and blankets) into a basket and added some blue ribbon. This was an easy, crafty gift that I knew wouldn’t be duplicated.

The shadow box could hold so many original arrangements. Maybe a St.Gerard handkerchief and a photo of baby or a wedding invitation and a photo of the couple before they married. You could give one as a birthday gift and include a photo of yourself with the recipient and some memorable tokens inside.  The possibilities are endless.

  • Shadow boxes are really great! My mother told me that if I get invited to a baby shower, I must add a shadow box in the list of the gift that I will send to the receiver. Thanks for sharing.
